Kiana is located on the north bank of the Kobuk River, 57 air miles east of Kotzebue. It lies at approximately 66° 58' N Latitude, 160° 26' W Longitude (Sec. 09, T018N, R008W, Kateel River Meridian). The community is located in the Kotzebue Recording District. In 1909, it became a supply center for the Squirrel River placer mines. A post office was established in 1915.
