Located on the Seward Peninsula Cheenik is a station on Golovin Bay. In 1909 there were a Swedish Mission and reindeer station there. Cheenik was one of the oldest white settlements on the Peninsula and was formerly known as Dexter as a man by the name of Dexter conducted a trading post here long before the discovery of gold in Northwestern Alaska
